TypeScript Developer Salary Trends in the Netherlands

By Josh Nel

TypeScript is the third most-used language in the Netherlands after JavaScript and Python. Here, we’ll look at average TypeScript developer salaries by experience and how they compare to the average JavaScript developer.

The average junior TypeScript developer earns €40 250 per year if they have at least two years of experience, €806 or 2% less than their JavaScript counterparts.

TypeScript developers receive the most significant pay increase of their careers once they pass the four-year experience mark:

Mid-level TypeScript developers in the Netherlands with at least four years of experience can expect a 32.4% pay increase giving them an average annual salary of €53 226.

By this stage of their careers, they’re earning €2126 or 4.2% more than the average for JavaScript.

Why the significant increase? First, developers typically change jobs more frequently at this stage of their careers. This gives them a chance to negotiate a higher market-related salary than the inflationary increases developers can expect if they stay with one company.

Companies hiring developers at these career stages are more inclined to offer what might seem a significant increase because the salary range is still not that high.

Salary growth for senior TypeScript developers follows a similar trend to JavaScript and Python developers and begins to slow once they pass the 6-year mark. However, that’s not to say there’s no growth.

A senior TypeScript developer’s salary increases by 14.7% after they’ve been coding for at least six years. This gives them an average annual salary of €61 047 or €2 476 more than the typical JavaScript developer.

They can also look forward to an additional 12.1% increase to an average of €68 426 after coding for at least ten years. However, the gap between them and their JavaScript counterparts has narrowed to €169 or 0.3%.

Why does salary growth slow for senior TypeScript developers? It’s standard for senior developers to experience a slowdown at this level of their careers, regardless of their tech stack. In addition to senior developers generally changing jobs less often than juniors, companies must consider salary increases more carefully as a developer’s salary level becomes “more expensive”.

Average TypeScript Developer Salary by Experience

Years of Experience 25th Percentile Average 75th Percentile
2-4 €32,500 €40,250 €47,500
4-6 €42,500 €53,226 €57,500
6-10 €53,750 €61,047 €67,500
10+ €57,500 €68,426 €77,500

Keep in mind

The data in this article is taken from OfferZen’s 2022 Netherlands report: State of the Software Developer Nation. In this article, ‘salary’ refers to the gross annual salary (before tax) provided by 510 survey respondents.

We only included salary insights for experience levels with enough data points to ensure that the amounts represent TypeScript developers in the country. That’s why we excluded entry-level developer salaries for this article.

Average salaries are single data points and only one part of a bigger story. Many respondents may earn significantly more or significantly less than these averages. However, we hope to map underlying trends by tracking the average salaries for different experience levels.

These averages should not be used to estimate what your actual salary will or should be.

Salaries depend on the company size, industry, individual, perks and nature of work. These factors all influence the salary a company will offer to a prospective hire. In addition, most developers are “fluent” in several languages, which will affect the final figures.

It’s also important to remember that every individual’s context is different. Salary is a personal conversation that should take place between employee and employer.
