Developed by Facebook as an open-source JavaScript framework and library with cutting-edge functionality, React enables developers to create web applications and user interfaces with a lot less code than conventional JavaScript. other tech giants like Airbnb, Netflix and Instagram use React. It’s also hugely popular among developers, and is the Netherlands’ most used and third most-popular framework.

This article looks at average React developer salaries and how these compare to JavaScript and Vue.js developers.

Junior React developers with 2-4 years of experience earn an average annual income of €45 278. At this level, they’re notably ahead of JavaScript and Vue.js developers, who earn 12.2% (€4 935) and (€7 957) less respectively.

With 4-6 years under their belts, React developers are in for a 7.6% (€3 449) increase to a salary of €48 727. This relatively small increase means their salary lead on JavaScript developers closes to 4.9% (€2 270) and Vue.js to a nominal 0.4% (€210).

Junior React developers earn well compared with other frontend framework programmers in the early stages of their careers, which may explain this modest increase. Nonetheless, there’s good news on the horizon for those who stick with React as a career.

Average React Developer Salary by Experience

Average Salary by Years Experience, showing 25th and 75th percentiles
Years of Experience 25th Percentile Average 75th Percentile
2-4 €38,000 €45,278 €50,000
4-6 €38,850 €48,727 €56,250
6-10 €46,000 €58,982 €72,000
10-15 €54,381 €69,243 €80,074

In the 6-10 year bracket, React developers are in for the largest increase of their careers, rising 21% (€10 255) to €58 982. That tracks quite closely with JavaScript developers, who earn 3.6% (€2 062) less, and Vue.js developers, who earn 3% (€1 696) less.

Senior React developers with more than a decade on the job can expect a further 17.4% pay hike, bringing their annual income to €69 243. Similarly experienced JavaScript developers see a much lower pay hike, meaning they earn 14.8% (€8 927) less, while Vue.js developers see a healthier increase, earning just 1.6% less (€1 102) at this level.

On top of working with and writing semantic HTML tags, building reusable components and libraries, optimising components and improving frontend performance, among other responsibilities, senior React developers typically need to lead teams of junior developers. With the framework being so popular in the Netherlands and beyond, it’s no surprise this earns them higher increases as they grow in experience and seniority.

Keep in mind

The data in this article is taken from StackOverflow’s 2022 Developer Survey’s open data. In this article, ‘salary’ refers to the gross annual salary (before tax) provided by 189 survey respondents from the Netherlands who identified as React developers.

We only included salary insights for experience levels with enough data points to ensure that the amounts represent React developers in the country. That’s why we excluded salaries for developers with fewer than two and more than fifteen years of experience in this article.

We also ran an outlier analysis to identify data points skewing the distribution of salaries. These points were removed from the final dataset to ensure that the amounts are representative of React developers in the Netherlands. We’ve also included the 25th and 75th percentiles to give you further information about the distribution of salary data.

Average salaries are single data points and only one part of a bigger story. Many respondents may earn significantly more or significantly less than these averages. However, we hope to show underlying trends by mapping the average salaries for different experience levels.

These averages should not be used to estimate what your actual salary will or should be. Salaries depend on the company size, industry, individual, perks and nature of the work. These factors all influence the salary a company will offer to a prospective hire. In addition, most developers are “fluent” in several languages and work across multiple roles, which will also affect the final figures.

It’s also important to remember that every individual’s context is different. Salary is a personal conversation that should take place between employee and employer.
