React Developer Salary Trends in the Netherlands

By Josh Nel

React is still the framework developers in the Netherlands want to work with most and has overtaken Node.js to become the most used framework in the country. Here, we’ll look at the average React developer’s salary by experience in the Netherlands and how it compares to the average JavaScript developer’s salary.

The average junior React developer salary starts at €40 673 per year for developers with at least two years of experience.

Once they pass the four-year experience mark, React developers in the Netherlands receive the most significant pay increase of their careers: a 33.4% pay increase with an average annual salary of €54 250.

Why the significant increase? First, developers typically change jobs more frequently at this stage of their careers. This gives them a chance to negotiate a higher market-related salary than the inflationary increases developers can expect if they stay with one company.

Companies hiring developers at these career stages are more inclined to offer what might seem like a significant increase because the salary range is still not that high.

At this stage of their careers,mid-level React developers in the Netherlands earn €3 150, or 6.2%, more than the average JavaScript developer.

Average React Developer Salary by Experience

Years of Experience 25th Percentile Average 75th Percentile
2-4 €32,500 €40,673 €47,500
4-6 €42,500 €54,250 €57,500
6-10 €56,250 €62,661 €70,000
10+ €62,500 €74,265 €82,500

After significant increases at junior and mid-level career stages, senior React developer salaries began to slow once they pass the six-year experience mark.

When React developers with more than six years of experience move from mid-level to senior-level, they experience a 15.5% salary increase to €62 661.

Senior React developers can also look forward to an additional 18.5% increase to an average of €74 365 after coding for at least ten years. By this stage of their careers, Senior React developers earn 8.8%, or €6 008, more than their JavaScript counterparts".

Why does salary growth slow for senior React developers? It’s standard for senior developers to experience a slowdown at this level of their careers, regardless of their tech stack. In addition to seniors generally changing jobs less often than junior and mid-level developers, companies also have to consider salary increases as a developer’s salary level becomes “more expensive”.

Keep in mind

The data in this article is taken from OfferZen'sOfferZen’s 2022 Netherlands report: State of the Software Developer Nation. In this article, “salary” refers to the gross annual salary (before tax) provided by 510 survey respondents.

We only included salary insights for experience levels with enough data points to ensure that the amounts are representative of React developers in the country. That’s why we excluded entry-level developer salaries for this article.

Average salaries are single data points and only one part of a bigger story. Many respondents may earn significantly more or significantly less than these averages. However, we hope to map underlying trends by mapping the average salaries for different experience levels.

These averages should not be used to estimate what your actual salary will or should be.

Salaries are dependent on the company size, industry, individual, perks and nature of work. These factors all influence the salary a company will offer to a prospective hire. In addition, most developers are “fluent” in several languages, which will affect the final figures.

It’s also essential to remember that every individual’s context is different. Salary is a personal conversation that should take place between employee and employer.
