ASP.Net Developer Salary Trends in Germany

ASP.NET, Microsoft’s venerable backend web development framework, is still going strong after two decades and shows no signs of slowing down. In this article, we’ll take a look at ASP.NET developer salaries across various experience levels, from rookie through to veteran, as well as how these compare with those of C#, the programming language most commonly used with the framework.

Junior ASP.NET developers with 2-4 years of experience can expect to earn an average annual income of €41 817. That’s a healthy 6.8% (€2 658) above the equivalent salary for a C# developer.

A couple more years on the job puts ASP.NET developers into the 4-6 year bracket, with a generous 20.3% (€8 483) raise taking their annual earnings to €50 300: that’s 5.6% (€2 685) more than C# devs at this level.

With 6-10 years on the job, ASP.NET developers are in for a 15.2% pay hike that takes them to €57 948. That’s not bad at all, but interestingly C# developers in the same experience bracket see a more generous increase that puts them 2.5% (€1 467) ahead.

However, this trend reverses once more for highly experienced developers. With 10-15 years under their belts, ASP.NET devs should receive a further 17.4% (€10 074) increase to reach a salary of €68 022. That puts them ahead of C# developers once more, though by just 2.9% (€1 923).

Senior ASP.NET developers who can take responsibility for the entire software development life cycle, from conception through development to deployment and maintenance, alongside managing developer teams, will continue to command handsome salaries.

Keep in mind

The data in this article is taken from StackOverflow’s 2022 Developer Survey’s open data. In this article, ‘salary’ refers to the gross annual salary (before tax) provided by 140 survey respondents from Germany who identified as ASP.Net developers.

We only included salary insights for experience levels with enough data points to ensure that the amounts represent ASP.Net developers in the country. That’s why we’ve omitted developers with fewer than two years of experience, as well as those with more than fifteen years of experience from the article.

We also ran an outlier analysis to identify data points skewing the distribution of salaries. These points were removed from the final dataset to ensure that the amounts are representative of ASP.Net developers in Germany. We’ve also included the 25th and 75th percentiles to give you further information about the distribution of salary data.

Average salaries are single data points and only one part of a bigger story. Many respondents may earn significantly more or significantly less than these averages. However, we hope to show underlying trends by mapping the average salaries for different experience levels.

These averages should not be used to estimate what your actual salary will or should be. Salaries depend on the company size, industry, individual, perks and nature of the work. These factors all influence the salary a company will offer to a prospective hire. In addition, most developers are “fluent” in several languages and work across multiple roles, which will also affect the final figures.

It’s also important to remember that every individual’s context is different. Salary is a personal conversation that should take place between employee and employer.
