What we do

Yuppiechef was founded in 2006 by two good friends and only 32 products in a lounge in Plumstead, Cape Town. More than a decade later, our simple goal remains: To offer you the best kitchen and home products — and to be the very best at doing it. We launched Yuppiechef to join in the cooking revolution from the early 2000s and to make available, for the first time in South Africa, the products and brands that people were seeing on television, but couldn’t always easily get hold of.

We wanted to empower our customers to feel that even if all they could successfully make in their kitchen was a tomato sandwich, at least they could enjoy preparing it with a decent German knife, and serving it proudly on an on-trend slate board. Tools and ingredients don’t turn ordinary people into a Gordon Ramsay, but they can certainly inspire and motivate us to cook and share meals together — and that has always been our ultimate mission as a company.

Today, Yuppiechef is South Africa's premier kitchen and homeware store, stocking over 8600 products from 700 of the world's leading brands. We have 7 stores spread between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Our vision is to build the world's best shopping experience and to make retail better, we are striving to deliver a true omnichannel shopping experience to our customers.

We are a small Tech team, with an award-winning track record: 7-time winner of best Ecommerce Store in SA, as well as awards for Digital Company of the year, Best Employer and any others. As far as possible, we build everything ourselves. Such as our Website and internal, client and supplier facing Dashboards. Warehouse, Point of Sale, Newsletter, and Transactional mail systems and plenty more. You will be exposed to a large range of challenges & technologies, and have plenty of room to grow and gain experience in the areas that interest you the most.

We're a tight-knit, friendly team who genuinely enjoy working with and learning from each other. We work hard, and we always keep our sense of humour. We're not afraid of change, and we're not afraid of interrogating our choices to find even better solutions. We support each other at all times.

Our Engineering Processes

Each member of our Tech team is involved in all aspects of the development process from the initial specification, through to development, testing, launching and maintenance. Since we love to build things ourselves, we have plenty of opportunities to work in different areas, to take initiative and to build truly great things.
