What we do
SAOTA is a world renowned architecture firm located in Cape Town.
SAOTA is a firm of architectural designers and technologists including
in-house CGI and marketing teams, as well as a strong support
staff. With roots in South Africa, SAOTA now has an international
footprint with projects on five continents.
SAOTA VR Lab creates VR/MR apps- currently for architecture.
Looking around the Lab you'll see arduinos, a quadrocopter, some Vives
and on some days the odd mouse and keyboard.
We create many different tools and apps, ranging from websites, mobile tools and in house workflow apps to VR solutions using the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift + Touch.
Why Work For Us
SAOTA VR aims at bridging the gap between analogue and digital space through alternative methods of human interface design.
With a wide ranging skill-set from architecture and CGI to aerial photogrammetry and virtual reality development, we have a passion to deliver the future today.
Currently the VR Lab sits alongside SAOTA's media and CGI Departments in a neighboring building to the main office. Approx: 22 persons.
We are neighbored by more that 150 staff members ranging from architects to advisers and support staff.
Our Engineering Processes
Most projects start in a notepad or on a whiteboard before moving onto rapid prototyping and feature implementation in Unity3D.
A wide range of input and output devices ranging from arduino to the HTC Vive allows us to experiment for a range of different platforms.
From here deeper engineering and code completion take projects into workable and testing phases.
A workable 'prototype' soon becomes a tool/product for someone else.
Usually testing, iteration, design/development critique takes these prototypes into a bugfixing stage where the project will remain until completion.
Our Hiring Process
Some forms and an interview lead to a 3 month paid 'internship' - a probation period, where you will undergo '*rigorous'* training and undertake mini virtual reality based hackathons to test and grow your skill set, one suitable for a more permanent role.
