rain began by launching SA’s first data-only network in 2018, and the country’s first commercial 5G network in 2019, bringing affordable, unlimited 4G and 5G data plans to the market. The 5G network has since expanded from metros to smaller towns and regions, currently covering over 8 million households. This makes it one of the largest 5G networks in the country, and growing.

In 2023, we launched our new 4G mobile network, offering HD voice calls, mobile 4G data and SMS, with national 4G mobile coverage. By combining these new 4G mobile services with our existing 5G home wifi service, we created rainOne. Finally, South Africans could connect their homes and phones through one affordable plan.
