What We Do

Established in 1990, Pragma is an engineering company that delivers enterprise asset management solutions to asset-intensive industries. A privately-owned company, Pragma employs 580 employees all working to give clients total peace of mind.

We take pride in the software tools and management practices we have developed to help companies in the mining, manufacturing, local government, distributed facilities and original equipment manufacturing sectors perform at their peak while balancing asset performance, cost and risk.

Headquartered in South Africa, Pragma has a global footprint with regional offices in Brasil, Europe and Mexico, while partnerships with various companies around the world allow us to take our services into many more territories. We are proud of achieving a Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) rating and for qualifying as an Empowering Supplier in South Africa.

Why Work For Us

We are a company that cares for and invests in our people. Our software engineering department has a very low turnover, which is testament to this. We have multiple developers that have been with the company for 15+ years.
We get to work from home 3 days a week, and enjoy flexible work schedules.

Our Culture

Our culture is the way we live our shared values, beliefs and principles. It’s our code, our core logic and the software of our minds that drives our collective behaviour. Culture isn’t simply the legacy we leave to the next generation in the form of the lessons we pass on; it’s also what we do when we think that no one else is looking. It’s how we think, act and interact.

As one of our organisational values, engagement is part of Pragma’s fabric. We encourage engagement by providing a conducive work environment: the use of assessment tools such as ShadowMatch and Clifton StrengthsFinder™, by Gallup, ensures a perfect fit between employees, their teams and their job specs; we provide attractive benefits like leave; and we help our staff members adopt a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives by making our organisation a pleasant place to work. Initiatives such as Pragma fun days and company sports teams are key in this regard. That’s why Pragma employees are proud of their company and willing to invest extra effort.

We understand our clients and their needs, and make a positive contribution to their future.
We provide the opportunity for individuals to enjoy their working lives as much as their home lives while playing to their strengths.
We foster a team environment in which each individual is recognized, valued and developed to support our company strategy.
We are honest and act with integrity in all our endeavors to grow the company towards a sustainable future.

Our Engineering Processes

We follow scrum and agile principles in a three week cycle. We have software releases to our clients every 2 - 3 months, but are moving to a cloud-based continuous delivery model.
We have a mature SDLC involving multiple testing angles and continuous integration.
Now is a great time to join as we are re-architecting our software solutions for a mobile-first, api-first platform running in the cloud.
We have a good mix of architects, analyst developers, testers, business analysts and user experience designers, so there are always opportunities to learn from each other.

Our Hiring Process

We have a chat to see if there's an initial culture and technical fit.
If all goes well, we'll invite you for an introductory interview that contains a mix of personality and technical questions.
If we like what you have to say, and you like what we have to say, we arrange a second technical interview where you will be asked to code a solution using a normal dev environment. The purpose here is not to reach a single "right" solution, but more to observe how you solve technical problems and apply good design.
Once completed and there are no red flags along the way, we'll be in touch with an official offer.
