Driven by the internet’s untapped potential in Namibia, TODAY is a pioneering E-Commerce business on a mission to make online transactions attractive, seamless and readily accessible to everyone.
Founded by Chris (Chartered Accountant) and Naude (Electric/Electronic Engineer) in 2013 as StayToday - an online last-minute accommodation site, the company has since grown into a popular online marketplace that includes not just discounted accommodation, but also online events ticket sales (EventsToday) and a rapidly-growing dependable charity donations page (GiveToday).
The most recent and exciting extension of the TODAY group is PAYTODAY - a next generation app that turns transactions into an enjoyable and social experience. The first of its kind in Africa, and over a year in the making, PayToday will replace the concept of cash and change the way money moves in Namibia.
Why work for us?
Timing is everything. The Today group is already 4 years old, and the growing pains and frustrations associated with start-up life is largely (hopefully) behind us as we enter our most exciting phase. We secured a significant investment in March 2016 and signed a strategic agreement with Nedbank Namibia earlier this year. The initial feedback following the soft launch of the PayToday App has exceeded all our expectations and we are very excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
As a Fintech Company, we believe there are 3 mains boxes that you need to tick to be successful:
You need sufficient run-way > We have a very positive relationship with our local investors and they have the financial means to support PayToday indefinitely should the Company continue to show promise.
Trust > Our relationship and association with Nedbank has gone and will go a long way in winning over consumer trust.
Solve a real problem for consumers > The growth of Venmo (also a P2P solution) in the US and the success of the soft launch here in Namibia clearly ticks this box.
By joining PayToday, you enter the business at the most exciting phase were we start to expand our payment ecosystem. We are on a mission to create a new payment ecosystem in Namibia, and then to replicate the model in other African countries. We remove the negative stigma associated with online transactions and make PayToday the benchmark for digital commence in Africa.
PayToday is a dynamic, innovative, pioneering project that is looking for a developer that takes pride in his work and values the opportunity to build an App that consumers love.
Job satisfaction and healthy relationships between colleagues are at the core of our long term strategy and drives our Company culture. We recognize that the building blocks of any successful business are the people that work at the Company. We recognize and appreciate that every individual is very unique and therefore try to avoid a one-size fits all approach to rewarding our employees.
We believe the all the bells and whistles typically associated working for a startup are superficial and overrated.
It’s more important to focus on developing an enviable culture and allowing the perks to be an extension of it—not the other way around.
The characteristics that best define our employees are transparency, trust, good listeners that have an appreciation and understanding of the importance of celebration and the value of a community.
Our Engineering Processes
At Today we enjoy building intuitive B2C products where the user experience is the main indication of success. We develop using the SDLC approach and common engineering processes with a big emphasis on lean philosophy’s Minimum Viable Product paradigm. We believe in less-is-more and data-driven decision making.
Our Hiring Process
We will schedule 2 interviews. First interview will be with the two co-founders of PayToday to ensure a culture fit, followed by an interview with our full-time CakePhP developer and Global Kinetic (our current dev house) to asses your technical competency.
