Who we are

Nihka Technology Group is a South African technology group founded in 2008, based in Glenvista, Johannesburg. We build AI decision systems for regulated industries and run advanced cybersecurity, anchored by a 24/7 cyber operations centre and ISO 27001 certification. Our clients are banks, insurers and enterprises whose problem is hard and real: how do you run AI on data trapped in a 30-year-old core system, and prove every decision to a regulator?

Nihka Labs: where you would work

Nihka Labs is where all our software developers sit, and the team reports directly to the CEO of Nihka AI and Darta. No management layers, no ticket factory. Labs runs multiple projects at once: production AI systems for enterprise clients, technologies the group owns outright and is building into products, and internal projects where we are turning Nihka itself into an AI-native organisation by automating our own processes and engineering the company for the future.

That mix is deliberate. Some weeks you are shipping a regulated client integration; some weeks you are building greenfield IP where the stack is your decision; some weeks you are automating something inside our own business because it annoyed you enough to fix it. If you have ever wanted your work to change what the company is, rather than sit in a backlog, this is that environment.

The kind of people we want

People who think creatively and solve problems, but more than that: people who go looking for problems. The engineers who thrive here are the ones who notice the mechanism that could be better, the process that should not exist, the part of the stack that will not survive the next two years, and then do something about it. We want people who treat the organisation and the tech stack as things to be improved and geared for the future, not just maintained. We are looking for a team that is curious, and that is always operating at the tip of the spear when it comes to the latest advances in exponential technology like AI

This is a highly entrepreneurial company. Ideas travel fast, decisions get made in the room, and good work compounds into ownership of bigger things.

How we work

We are an AI-first engineering team. Every developer works with coding agents (Claude Code, OpenCode, Junie and similar) daily, and the engineers we rate highest build their own agents, tools and skills to automate the redundant parts of their job. Prompt engineering and working with multiple agents is a baseline skill.

Ownership is real: you spin up projects from a blank terminal, hold opinions on architecture, write your own Docker configs, and carry your work to production in an ISO 27001 environment. We work hybrid, anchored to our Glenvista office in Johannesburg South. But to be honest, most of our team members love coming to the office because it is difficult to build a cohesive team in any other way.
