Summary

What we do

DNS was incorporated in 1998 in South Africa to provide specialist domain name registry services and products to the South African market. The largest domain space in South Africa is “CO.ZA” with over 1,1 million subordinate records. We provide and maintain the technical systems that run "CO.ZA" together with "ORG.ZA", "NET.ZA" and "WEB.ZA".

In addition to the .ZA domain names, we have also successfully assisted our customers to apply for and launch 4 (four) new geographic Top Level Domains, namely .CAPETOWN, .JOBURG, .DURBAN and .AFRICA. We are proud to be one of the few Registry Service Providers (RSP) globally to have made the transition from ccTLD to gTLD environments. This is testimony to the flexibility of our registry technology and the expertise of our dedicated team.

We also provide further domain name related products and services to customers in Europe and Africa.

Culture

We are a close knit team made up of 16 staff members in Midrand, Paarl and Mauritius, all sharing a curiosity for anything tech. We encourage a relaxed, fun working environment with a results driven, customer centric approach to work. We try to focus on a work life balance.

Takeways, casual lunches and fun team activities like Hashtag Escape, LaserTag and weekends away are common occurrences at DNS.

Why Work For Us

We regard our staff as strategic partners who participate in important decisions, including the design and development of strategic products and service offerings. We also encouraged our staff to participate in industry bodies, attend events and training courses to ensure we stay ahead of the game and contribute to and participate in the development of global domain name industry standards.

We also participate in youth and skills development programs through the provision of various internships, including joint initiatives with the ZA Central Registry, such as Coachlab (https://www.jcse.org.za/skills/graduate) and our own private internship programs.

We are a results oriented company, but we also want our staff to have fun and to enjoy their working environment. It is also important to us that our staff sees how their work contributes on the overall goals and objectives of the company. Interaction and collaboration between all levels and functions of the company is therefore encouraged.

DNS allows you to grow within the company and focus on what interests you. We encourage new, innovative ways of doing things with tons of memes and banter.

Engineering Process

We have adopted a mixture of Agile and waterfall process to software engineering where a solution is designed, spec'ed and agreed upon both internally and with customers before development takes place.

We use tools such as Jira to track tasks with a project manager to bring it all together. The developer is consulted on reasonable timelines and is then expected to stick to his/her allocated tasks and deadlines. Code review by team members is done before handing over to the QA team for testing and deployment.
