What we do

At BOQNET we aim to drastically improve the transparency, efficiency and success of projects in the construction industry utilizing modern solutions. Currently, we achieve this through our budgetcontrol platform by providing a single source of truth for construction projects to be managed through.

Using the Bill of Quantities as a base, users can place and manage orders, run through approval flows, view full audit histories, manage accounts and payments, manage compliance, manage suppliers and vendor items and more.

Over time, we aim to combine domain knowledge with venture building experience in order to build smart solutions to common problems in the construction industry (and possibly beyond!).

Why we do it

BOQNET was born out of a frustration of a lack of effective solutions to common problems. After years spent dealing with the same problems we decided to build an internal tool to solve them for us. After a couple of years of developing a PoC and testing it on real world projects, it quickly became apparent that this solution could provide value to others in the industry as well. Thus, budgetcontrol by BOQNET was created. A platform, purpose built from the ground up, designed to provide construction companies the toolsets they need to successfully execute projects without dictating how they must run them.

Who we are

The company was founded by Lammert Oosthuizen. Lammert brings domain knowledge and business experience having over 20 years experience in the construction industry and having created his own successful construction company.

He was joined early on by Rupert Leslie. Rupert operates as the CTO and has spent over 6 years building several ventures before joining BOQNET, bringing product and technical knowledge to the team.

Together, with a small product development team, we are serious about bringing meaningful impact to the world whilst having some fun along the way.

Our Culture

Here are some of the core tenents that we believe in. These tenets help guide our process and decision making along the way.

  • Do it Right, Not Easy - We strongly believe in doing things the right way, not the easy way. This means taking time to find the optimum solution for the problem at hand to ensure that we can be proud of what we build, and that we provide a truly premium experience for our users.
  • Quality over Quantity - We focus on quality, whether that be of people, processes, features, etc. rather than quantity. We aim to build a small high performing team that builds high quality features, and let this principle guide us in all our decision making.
  • Keep it Simple - Turning complex problems into simple solutions is one of the harder things to do in the software world, but something that we strive for. This applies in our solution designs, day-to-day coding approaches, but also with our internal processes and checks too.
  • See the Bigger Picture - We do not believe in the notion of see task do task. We like our team to understand the greater problem so that they can work together to solve the problem, rather than building solutions that may not align with the initial problem statements. We are building a team that we trust to find the optimum solution to the problems put in front of them instead of dictating exactly what must be done
  • Mistakes Are Ok As Long As We Learn From Them - Nobody is perfect and we understand that mistakes are made. However, we will always push each other to learn from these so that, as a team, we do not make the same mistakes twice, aiming to continuously improve how we operate.

Ultimately we are an early-stage venture who are looking to establish a high performing development team. We strive for a relaxed environment where people are given the space to flourish. We want to work in a space where we are aligned on the goal we are trying to achieve and the team is given the space to figure out how we get there. We do accept that mistakes can be made, but always ensure that we push each other to learn from them and so we do not make the same ones twice. We are looking for people that align with this and can help contribute to building high quality work that we are proud to call our own

Our Hiring Process

  • 15 minute meet and greet interview to verify overall fit
  • 30-45 minute interview with the CTO to determine technical fit. It is possible a short, take home, technical assignment and/or follow up session may be asked for if this session does not bring the clarity required
  • 30 minute session with the founder and CEO
