Summary
What we do
Waves for Change is an award winning non-profit providing Surf Mentoring programmes to at risk youth across Africa. Based in Cape Town, working in partnership with local universities and researchers, W4C runs Surf Therapy projects across South Africa, Liberia and Somalia, and supports similar efforts around the world, helping young people cope with the burden of stress and trauma.
Why Work For Us
We are at the leading edge of surf therapy, sport for development, and what you do everyday will make a difference at Waves for Change and across the sector. We launched networks of peer programs who represent some of the top programs around the world.
Our Culture
We're mission oriented. While your work creates solutions at the global level, we often jump in the water with the coaches or participate in a training session to remind ourselves of the impact on a local level. If you surf, this place is unbeatable. Team house for JBay contest. Frequent surf sessions, access to the industry from the inside, and amazing shared office quiver. However, we also have a lot of 'not-yet surfers' who joined because they are passionate about youth development, empowerment, and helping at-risk youth cope with trauma.
Our Engineering Processes
In 2017, W4C worked with leading agencies and funders in the tech space to develop and test an app to mobilise and incentivise Surf Mentors – allowing Surf and Sport Therapy programmes to scale rapidly.
Our Hiring Process
You'll interact directly with the project leads and Founder in the first rounds of interviews. Then we'll introduce you to the rest of the team for a discussion on the role and path forward. We'd love to work with someone who wants to be on the ground in Cape Town full-time but willing to make an exception for someone exceptional.
