Summary

About us

Samewave is a new breed of business management software that banishes bad meetings, increases productivity & drives businesses forward.

We're a well-backed, UK-based start-up set to revolutionise how people and teams work together. We have a cross-platform hybrid web and mobile application currently in v2 Beta, following a successful v1 release, and are in the process of building out an ambitious product roadmap!

Our team, split between our London and Cape Town offices, has been delivering digital solutions for over 10 years and is part of the Big Ideas Group Ltd, a £40m turnover collective of technology businesses that has been winning the Sunday Times 'Best Companies to Work For' awards every year since 2009.

What you'll be working on

We have a relaxed and friendly work environment. We place a strong emphasis on staff welfare and autonomy. We don't like to micro manage or monitor, instead we prefer to collectively set and agree our goals, then work together to achieve them with each team member taking responsibility for getting their stuff done. We are a start-up so we do have deadlines and need to work hard to achieve them, although we always try to keep any pressure healthy.

Our approach and workflow is based on the agile development, Scrum, test-driven development and continuous integration concepts. We develop in the Unix environment on OSX. We use Pivotal Tracker for development workflow, Aha for product management and Samewave for internal comms.

We're looking to expand our team, help us develop the web app and take over the world! This includes all areas of the app but the major focus is development of the client (or user interface) in EmberJS & JavaScript, the back-end in RubyonRails, ActionCable WebSockets and PostgreSQL, as well as the mobile deployment (currently through Apache Cordova to iOS and Android but we may incorporate more native elements in future).

We have a Chief Design Officer and designer based in our London office who, along with the team, produce the planning and design deliverables. The dev team inputs on everything and production is a team-led scrum process, however our developers essentially only need to worry about delivering code, not Photoshop!

Our hiring process

We have a straightforward hiring process, detailed below:

1) 1st Interview
This interview is generally a video call with our CTO or CEO. It's a simple discussion format focused on work experience, personality, culture and general suitability for the role. It takes around 10-15 minutes.

2) 2nd interview
If successful, we progress to a 2nd interview. This interview is face-to-face at our offices in Cape Town. The first 15 minutes or so is a chance to meet the whole team with a casual roundtable discussion focused on technical knowledge, understanding and experience. The following 45-60 minutes is then a technical pairing session with one of our developers to work through an example problem.

We aim to complete this process as quickly as possible, ideally within 2-3 days.
