Samewave is a new breed of business management software that banishes bad meetings, increases productivity & drives your business forward.
We're a well-backed, UK-based start-up set to revolutionise the world of social performance management with a game-changing B2B app. We have an existing v1 web application in live use and are currently in the process of building a rather ambitious cross-platform hybrid web & mobile app (with the possibility of more native apps) as our v2.
Our HQ is in London, whilst our development office is in Cape Town. Our team has been delivering digital solutions for over 10 years and is part of the Big Ideas Group Ltd, a £40m turnover collective of technology businesses that's been winning the Sunday Times ‘Best Companies to Work For’ awards every year since 2009.
What you'll be working on
We have a relaxed and friendly work environment. We place a strong emphasis on staff welfare and autonomy. We don't like to micro manage or monitor, instead we prefer to collectively set and agree our goals, then work together to achieve them with each team member taking responsibility for getting their stuff done. We are a start-up so we do have deadlines and need to work hard to achieve them, although we always try to keep any pressure healthy.
Our approach and workflow is based on the agile development, Scrum, mobile first, test-driven development, and continuous integration concepts. We develop in the Unix environment on OSX. We use Pivotal Tracker for dev workflow, Slack for comms and Aha for product management.
We have a Chief Design Officer and a Designer based in our London office, who along with the CTO and COO, produce the planning and design deliverables. The dev team inputs on everything and production is a team-led srum process, however the developers essentially only need to worry about doing development.
Our Hiring Process
We have a fairly straightforward hiring process, detailed below:
1) Telephone screening
If suitable, we do a short telephone interview to verify key details like suitability, relevance, desired role, being eligible to work in the country, etc. Generally 10-15 minutes long.
2) 1st Interview
If successful, we progress to a 1st interview. This interview is face-to-face at our offices in Cape Town. It's conducted with our CTO and lead developer. It's a simple discussion format focused on work experience, personality, culture and general suitability for the role. About an hour long.
3) 2nd interview
If successful, we progress to a 2nd interview. This interview is face-to-face at our offices in Cape Town. The first 30 minutes is a chance to meet the whole team with a casual roundtable discussion format focused on technical knowledge, understanding and experience. The remaining 60 minutes is then a technical pairing session with our lead developer to work through an example code problem. Generally 1.5-2 hours long.
We aim to complete this process as quickly as possible, generally within 2-3 days.
