We're looking for a dynamic software professional who thrives on modernising legacy systems to join our Mikros Systems business. You'll work alongside our Embedded Systems Engineer delivering robust embedded software solutions for South Africa's traffic monitoring and control infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of an existing Delphi codebase while driving the evaluation and migration to modern languages and toolchains — perfect if you have a passion for transforming legacy systems into maintainable, future-ready solutions. You'll be deeply involved in the full product lifecycle, from design through to field deployment. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with our hardware and embedded team, you'll design and develop software components, collaborate on hardware-software integration, and participate in system architecture decisions. Your day-to-day will include maintaining and refactoring the existing Delphi codebase, implementing test-driven development practices, and contributing to build pipelines and automated testing. You'll also play a key role in research and innovation, staying current on emerging technologies and toolchains to reduce technical debt and improve system performance. We're seeking someone with 8+ years of professional software development experience and working knowledge of Delphi (or the ability to quickly master it). Experience with modern languages like C, C++, Rust, Python, or Go is highly valued, as is familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate migration efforts. You'll need strong embedded software development skills, solid understanding of object-oriented design, and the ability to work independently within our small, technical team.
