Role description

Is this you?

You think in agents. When you look at a business process, you're already sketching the orchestration flow - which step needs a tool call, where the guardrail goes, how the handoff between agents should work. You've shipped something that real users interact with through an AI agent, not just a demo that impressed in a sprint review. You're comfortable across the stack - LLM APIs, Azure infrastructure, system prompts, integrations - and you've learned that the hardest part of building agents isn't the AI, it's making the workflow actually hold up in production.

Who we are

Verder is a multinational manufacturer of scientific equipment and industrial pumps, operating across 85 entities and ~1,800 users globally. We run Microsoft E5 across 40+ countries and we're building Agent Factory - a dedicated programme to redesign how the group operates in an AI-native way.

Agent Factory is a hands-on team inside an established business, reporting directly to the board. We move like a startup but what we build ships to a global organisation at scale. Our agent ecosystem - built on Microsoft Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry - already spans IT, Scientific, and Liquids divisions. We have the mandate, the stack, and the stakeholders. We need the engineers.

The role

You'll design, build, and own the AI agents that power Agent Factory. That means taking a real business workflow, understanding it end-to-end, and turning it into a production-grade agent - connected to live systems, governed by guardrails, and actually adopted by the people who relied on the old process.

This is a build role. You own the agent from first sketch to live deployment and beyond. You'll work directly with the AI Lead, the Group IT & AI Manager, and operational stakeholders across divisions. You pick the right tool for the problem, set standards as you go, and ship.

Copilot Studio · Azure AI Foundry · Microsoft Graph · Power Automate · Python / TypeScript · REST APIs

What you'll ship

• Design and build production agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry - intake flows, approval chains, multi-agent orchestration, retrieval-augmented patterns

• Configure system prompts, knowledge sources, guardrail blocks (GDPR/AVG compliance, prompt injection protection, approved system allowlists) and tool integrations for each agent

• Build and maintain integrations between agents and business systems: Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, TopDesk (ITSM), Dynamics 365, and internal REST APIs

• Design and implement RAG pipelines where agents need to reason over structured and unstructured organisational data

• Own agent quality end-to-end: test coverage, error handling, fallback logic, and monitoring of live deployments

• Collaborate with operational teams to map workflows, validate agent behaviour in real conditions, and drive adoption - not just go-live

• Maintain the Agent Factory shared library: reusable knowledge files, guardrail blocks, prompt templates, and documented agent standards

• Evaluate new capabilities in the Microsoft AI platform (Foundry updates, Copilot Studio features, MCP integrations) and recommend what's worth adopting

• Report on agent impact: workflows automated, hours saved, throughput gained, error rates reduced

What you'll bring

You can take a vague operational problem and turn it into a working, deployed agent. You know the difference between a convincing demo and an agent that holds up when a finance team in Germany relies on it every morning.

• 3-6 years in a technical role: AI/automation engineering, GenAI product development, solutions architecture, or full-stack engineering with a strong AI focus

• Hands-on experience building and shipping AI agents or LLM-powered applications in production - not just prototypes or notebooks

• Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot Studio and/or Azure AI Foundry, or equivalent orchestration platforms (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, Vercel AI, custom agent frameworks)

• Comfortable working with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI) - writing effective system prompts, managing context, designing reliable agent logic

• Experience building RAG pipelines: data ingestion, embedding, vector storage, retrieval and ranking

• Comfortable integrating with REST APIs and enterprise systems; Microsoft Graph experience is a plus

• Understands GDPR/AVG requirements in the context of AI systems and data processing

• Makes good trade-offs: picks the simplest solution that works, documents it, knows when not to build

• Brings order to ambiguity - the fact that nobody has done this at Verder before energises you

• Fluent in English, written and spoken; Dutch is a bonus

The traits we value most

You ship agents that work in production, not just demos that impress in review.

• You design for adoption - an agent nobody uses is an agent that failed

• You prefer maintainable orchestration over clever multi-layer architectures

• You take ownership: if the integration breaks on a Monday morning, you fix it

• You measure your work by business impact - hours saved, errors eliminated, throughput unlocked

• You stay current: the Microsoft AI platform is moving fast and you keep pace with it

How we'll know it's working

• Number and quality of agents shipped to production

• Reliability and uptime of live agent workflows

• Adoption and satisfaction among the operational teams you support

• Coverage and reuse rate of the Agent Factory shared library

• Speed from workflow brief to deployed agent

• Business impact: capabilities unlocked, hours saved, error rates reduced

Company Profile Verder is a multi-national manufacturing company, headquartered in Netherlands, with 80+ subsidiaries, employing over 2000 people. We at the Agent Factory, exist to redesign how this global industrial organisation operates, given that LLM’s exist. We don’t measure ourselves based on delivering demos, features, or prototypes - we measure ourselves against outcomes and lasting material impact. Verder Group has been building industrial businesses across Africa, Europe, and Asia since 1959. We're the team they've backed to do it differently.

What we do We build, govern, and scale AI agents across Verder Group's entities worldwide, with businesses in pumps, scientific instrumentation, water treatment, mining, and more. We own the full lifecycle for complex cross-functional workflows (process mapping through to deploying an agent, monitoring it, and iterating it - working closely with the domain owners). We do not spend days solving minute-long problems. We do not force AI into workflows that can be fixed with better process design. We focus on creating value where it matters most.

Why work here You're not at a startup hoping for customers. You have a global group of industrial companies as day-one clients, with real problems and real stakes. You own work end-to-end, from mapping the process to deploying the agent. You'll set standards, pick tools, and ship business-critical automations fast. Backed by Verder means the infrastructure, the clients, and the operational access are already there.

Our culture Small, deliberately. The people here figure things out independently, build things that actually ship, and care about whether it actually worked. We value ownership, honest communication, and simple systems over clever ones. We measure ourselves by business impact — hours saved, workflows replaced, capabilities unlocked. We're early-stage inside an established organisation, which means you'll shape how this team operates, not inherit someone else's process.

How we work We use whatever tool makes the most sense to get the job done. Nothing is off the table. Naturally, we reach for agents as a very high leverage building tool. We value good processes - which means we interrogate them with first principles, to optimise them. We work directly with operational teams across Verder entities — which means you need to be as comfortable in a conversation with someone in operations as you are writing the automation that replaces their manual process.

How we hire Your name, your email, and a link to something you've built — that last one is required, and it replaces a cover letter. We're not looking for the perfect background. We're looking for people who move fast & take ownership; someone who can dig into a vague operational problem, and get something valuable working by the end of the week.
