Software Quality Engineer 2

Reports To: QA Manager

Job Summary

Building on the SQE1 foundation, the Software Quality Engineer 2 (SQE2) is responsible for advanced development of automation and load testing scripts.

In addition, the role includes:

• Critical test execution

• Defect management

• Collaboration with the functional testing team to enhance test coverage

• Creation of test reports

• Supporting team growth through knowledge sharing and training sessions

Job Responsibilities

Analysis and Design

• Review documentation such as business requirements and specifications

• Derive test estimates based on analysis

• Formulate strategic test approaches

• Ensure thorough and effective test coverage

Implementation

• Develop automation and load testing scripts aligned with internal standards and best practices

• Use version control tools to maintain structure, organisation, and efficiency

Execution

• Execute technical tests using relevant tools

• Ensure tests are performed methodically and accurately

• Execute automated regression testing packs

Defect Management

• Log defects identified during testing in a formal manner

• Track defect progress through resolution lifecycle

• Retest resolved defects to confirm fixes

Retesting and Regression Testing

• Perform retesting and regression testing to ensure system stability

• Ensure software changes do not negatively impact existing functionality or performance

• Create and maintain automated regression test packs

• Collaborate closely with the functional testing team to define scope

Reporting

• Create test progress reports and test completion reports

• Leverage automated reporting capabilities where possible

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing

• Create documentation to support knowledge sharing within the team

• Conduct training sessions to support team upskilling and capability development

Job Specification

• BSc, BCom, or National Diploma (Ndip)

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a software testing role

• ISTQB certification is advantageous
