Role description
Mid-Level Network Administrator
Purpose
To manage, maintain, and secure the company's hybrid IT infrastructure, including Microsoft-based server environments, Linux systems, enterprise storage, and network security platforms. The role ensures high availability, performance, and security of business-critical systems while providing reliable end-user support and maintaining robust data protection practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Server & Virtualization Management
- Administer, configure, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments.
- Manage Hyper-V virtualization platforms and Failover Clustering for high availability.
- Monitor server health, performance, and capacity planning.
- Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
2. Storage Management
- Administer, configure, and monitor IBM FlashSystem SAN storage.
- Manage storage allocation, LUNs, replication, and performance tuning.
- Ensure data integrity and optimal utilization of storage resources.
3. Web & Application Services
- Maintain and support IIS servers, including Application Request Routing (ARR).
- Support internal and external web applications.
- Troubleshoot performance, availability, and connectivity issues.
4. Linux Systems Administration
- Manage and support Ubuntu/Linux servers.
- Administer Linux-based mail systems.
- Perform system updates, hardening, and troubleshooting.
5. Network Administration
LAN/WAN Infrastructure
- Configure and support LAN/WAN infrastructure.
- Manage switching and routing concepts.
- Configure and maintain VLANs and IP addressing.
Wireless Networking
- Manage UniFi wireless networks, including controllers and access points.
- Perform wireless performance tuning and optimization.
Network Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot connectivity, latency, and network-related issues.
6. Security & Firewall Management
- Maintain and support Fortinet (FortiGate) firewalls.
- Monitor and analyze logs using FortiAnalyzer.
- Maintain firewall rules, VPN configurations, and security policies.
- Respond to security alerts and assist in incident response.
7. Data Protection & Disaster Recovery
- Implement and maintain backup and recovery solutions.
- Ensure successful backups for servers, SAN environments, and critical systems.
- Test disaster recovery and failover processes (Hyper-V clusters and storage).
- Maintain data retention and archiving policies.
8. Monitoring & Performance
- Monitor infrastructure using appropriate tools and dashboards.
- Generate reports on system performance, uptime, and incidents.
- Identify and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
9. End-User & Technical Support
- Provide Tier 2 support for infrastructure and network issues.
- Troubleshoot server, network, and application-related problems.
- Support connectivity, email, and system access issues.
10. Documentation & Governance
Maintain and update:
- Network diagrams
- System configurations
- Operational procedures
Additional responsibilities:
- Follow IT best practices (ITIL-aligned where applicable).
- Contribute to policy development and process improvements.
Required Skills & Experience
Core Technical Skills
- Windows Server (2019, 2022, 2025)
- Hyper-V and Failover Clustering (essential)
- IIS Administration (including ARR)
- Linux (Ubuntu) system administration
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs)
Platform-Specific Experience
- IBM FlashSystem SAN (or equivalent enterprise SAN platforms)
- Fortinet (FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer)
- UniFi wireless infrastructure
Security & Operations
- Firewall and network security best practices
- Backup and disaster recovery solutions
- System monitoring and troubleshooting
Scripting & Automation (Advantageous)
- PowerShell
- Bash
- Basic Python
Azure Cloud & DevOps
- Administer Microsoft Azure resources
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Support Azure DevOps pipelines and automation
- Use PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar tools to automate operational processes
Qualifications & Certifications
Minimum Requirements
- Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate Certification and/or equivalent degree/diploma
Advantageous Certifications
- Linux Certifications (LPIC, RHCSA)
- Networking Certifications (CCNA, Network+)
Soft Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis abilities
- Excellent communication and user support skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage incidents effectively
- Proactive and detail-oriented mindset
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies

The first interview is basically a meet and greet session to get a sense of who the candidate is and what their goals are. This can either be at a coffee shop, in office or even over Skype. The second part consists of an aptitude test and technical assessment. Should the candidate pass both sessions we will extend an offer of employment.
