Role description
We're expanding the LabourNet Platform and seeking an Application Architect who thrives at the intersection of architectural vision and hands-on delivery. This isn't a traditional ivory-tower role—you'll be embedded directly within our delivery squads, turning product intent into practical, well-sized solutions. You'll design real architectures including service boundaries, data models, events, and API contracts, then prove them through reference implementations and spikes on our actual stack. Your remuneration and level will reflect your experience, and you'll work with a modern technology foundation including Angular 21+, Quarkus 3.33+, PostgreSQL 18+, and Azure Container Apps. You'll own the technical quality and evolution of our platform by making governance enforceable rather than bureaucratic. This means capturing decisions as ADRs with clear triggers, wiring architectural standards into CI as automated fitness functions, and ensuring cross-cutting concerns like security, performance, and scalability are testable expectations. You'll review architecturally significant pull requests, contribute production code when it's the fastest path to de-risk decisions, and help us thoughtfully migrate legacy systems (Java 8/Vaadin/TomEE) toward our modern stack. Your expertise with cloud-native design, event-driven architecture, and the JVM ecosystem will directly shape our platform's future. We value architects who grow teams rather than gatekeep knowledge. You'll coach engineers and tech leads, transferring architectural thinking throughout the organization. You'll also play a key role in shaping our roadmap by surfacing technical risk, debt, and sequencing considerations to keep product and platform planning grounded in reality. We're looking for someone with strong JVM backend experience (Quarkus, Spring Boot, or similar), meaningful modern frontend depth with Angular or comparable frameworks, and practical cloud-native experience on Azure or transferable skills from AWS/GCP. If you have a bachelor's degree in IT, exposure to Agile methodologies, and ideally some background in payroll/HR or financial services, we'd love to hear from you.
