Role description
Join Intelligent Data, a UK-based transport data and technology business that's expanding into Cape Town to support Quantica, our cutting-edge software and analytics platform. We deliver traffic intelligence and transport analytics across the UK, and as part of our international growth strategy, we're building a dynamic South African development team.
This is your opportunity to work on a live commercial SaaS platform that manages and visualises transport data across large-scale infrastructure programmes. This isn't maintenance work; we're actively building, improving, and scaling. You'll build and maintain modern React-based web applications, develop scalable front-end architecture, and integrate APIs to create production-ready features. Working within Agile sprint cycles, you'll collaborate closely with our UK-based product teams while contributing directly to product growth and future platform capabilities.
We offer a competitive salary (ZAR 40,000 – 55,000 per month plus benefits), clear career progression into Senior Developer and Technical Lead pathways, and the chance to work with AI, analytics, and meaningful technology that has real-world infrastructure impact.
We're looking for a detail-oriented developer with 3-5+ years of commercial front-end experience and strong React capabilities who can work independently in our distributed international team. You'll need strong HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), REST API integration experience, and familiarity with Git, Docker, and Agile environments. The role requires a minimum 5-hour overlap with UK working hours for daily stand-ups and sprint reviews.
Join us at the start of our South African journey and help shape the future of transport technology.

About Intelligent Data
What we do
Intelligent Data Collection is a UK transport data and technology business delivering traffic intelligence, analytics and software solutions to support infrastructure planning, mobility strategy and transport decision-making.
Established in 2007, we work with local authorities, engineering consultancies, airports and national transport programmes across the UK, delivering large-scale transport data projects and developing software platforms that improve how transport data is captured, processed and used.
Our technology platform, Quantica, sits at the centre of that growth, bringing together operational delivery, analytics, AI-enabled workflows and client reporting into one scalable SaaS environment.
Why work for us
This is an opportunity to join an established business with nearly 20 years of market credibility, while helping build the next phase of our software capability.
Unlike many software roles, the products you build here are used in live infrastructure, transport planning and real-world decision-making. Your work will directly shape how major transport programmes operate and evolve.
As part of our South African growth strategy, you will join at the early stage of building our development team locally, creating genuine opportunities for progression, ownership and long-term influence.
Our culture
We are practical, delivery-focused and commercially driven. We value accountability, high standards and people who take ownership of their work. Our teams work closely across software, operations and product, ensuring that what we build solves real business and client problems.
Our engineering process
We build and improve live software products in an agile delivery environment, with regular sprint planning, stand-ups and product reviews.
Our focus is on scalable architecture, clean code, strong UI/UX and product-led development. Engineering works closely with operational teams to ensure software development remains commercially relevant and user-focused.
Our stack includes modern front-end frameworks, API integrations, cloud infrastructure and AI-enabled product development.
Our hiring process
Our process is straightforward and focused on capability.
Stage 1: Initial review and screening Stage 2: Technical interview and code discussion Stage 3: Final interview with leadership Stage 4: Offer
We move quickly and value strong communicators, clean thinkers and developers who can build with ownership and purpose.
