Role description
Ringier South Africa is looking for a SecOps Engineer & Data Protection Manager to proactively protect our digital assets and SaaS services.
In this hybrid role, you will bridge the gap between technical execution and policy governance. You will act as the guardian of our digital business processes, working closely with the Ringier International Security team to implement global frameworks while managing local Data Protection compliance.
What You’ll Do
Your role is split between hands-on Platform/Security Engineering and high-level Data Protection Management.
- Platform Engineering & SecOps
- Infrastructure: Deploy, configure, and manage servers/instances via AWS, Docker, and Terraform.
- Automation: Write scripts and applications (Bash/Python/Groovy) to automate security controls and processes.
- Incident Response: Analyze security logs (Datadog), identify suspicious activities, and lead forensic investigations and remedies.
- Vulnerability Management: Conduct continuous monitoring and vulnerability assessments, ensuring timely remediation.
DevSecOps: Review peer work and integrate security tools into the CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins).
- Data Protection & Governance
- Compliance: Develop and implement data protection policies aligned with regulations (GDPR, etc.) and the Ringier International Security Framework.
- Risk Management: Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and risk assessments.
- Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the go-to person for internal stakeholders, Legal, and HR regarding data privacy.
- Culture: champion security awareness programs to build a security-conscious culture within the "Cube."
The Tech Stack
- We need someone ready to hit the ground running with the following tools and technologies:
- Cloud Provider: AWS (Expertise in EC2, EKS/ECS Fargate, S3, RDS, ElastiCache, Elasticsearch).
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Docker.
- CI/CD & Monitoring: Jenkins, Git, Datadog, Cloudflare.
- Database & OS: MySQL, Linux.
- Languages: SQL, Bash, Python.
What You Bring to the Table
- Experience: At least 3 years in active Development & Cyber Security roles.
- Education: Bachelor's degree OR relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM) OR equivalent work experience.
- Framework Knowledge: Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 27001, NIST CSF, OWASP, and SANS.
- Communication: Proficiency in English with the ability to translate technical security risks into business requirements.
- Attitude: Eager to learn, open to constructive criticism, and willing to go beyond the call of duty.
- Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally when required.
