Role description

Must have Ecommerce, Cybersecurity and AI Experience.

We are seeking a Senior IT Manager to lead our existing small development team and grow a brand new team in Cape Town. This individual will bring strong hands-on JavaScript development experience, a working understanding of Agentic system architectures, and proven leadership in delivering scalable products in the payments space.

This role blends technical leadership, hands-on contributions, and strategic oversight. You will work closely with leadership to shape the product roadmap and ensure timely and high-quality delivery.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a cross-functional development team (front-end & back-end developers)

Set and maintain coding best practices, review code, and guide architecture decisions

Ensure AI and workflow automation is incorporated into IT and other areas of the business to improve efficiency.

Contribute to hands-on development, primarily in JavaScript and related frameworks

Ensure development aligns with industry standards and compliance relevant to the payments sector

Manage timelines, prioritize tasks, and communicate progress with stakeholders

Collaborate with product and design teams to implement user-focused solutions

Integrate and maintain Agentic system components where applicable

Monitor system performance, scalability, and security

Vendor and tool selection as needed for infrastructure or services

Requirements

5+ years of professional experience in software development, with a strong focus on JavaScript (Node.js, React, or similar frameworks)

Strong background in working with Ecommerce and Marketplace enironments

Experience managing small development teams or leading engineering initiatives

Solid understanding of Agentic system design (e.g., n8n or other workflow automation, autonomous agents, orchestration, or LLM-integrated workflows)

Strong background in the payments industry-experience with payment gateways, fraud prevention, or compliance is a plus

Proven track record of delivering reliable and secure software systems

Familiarity with modern CI/CD workflows, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote-first startup environment
