The role
We’re looking for a skilled, talented, and motivated Founding Backend Engineer to join our team. This role is focused on backend infrastructure and systems architecture. Full stack experience is a plus, but not required.
You’ll work closely with our founders and with client engineering teams to architect and implement mission-critical backend infrastructure that powers their core business operations. Your work will center on building scalable data pipelines, robust API integrations, and automated systems that handle high-volume data processing and real-time synchronization.
Beyond client delivery, you'll pioneer our product work — context-aware infrastructure that automatically infers rich contextual information for LLMs and operations teams across disparate systems. We aim to build intelligent connective tissue that gives AI and human operators unprecedented visibility into complex business processes.
This role is a great fit for someone who thrives on complexity and has an innate curiosity for technology and "what could be possible".
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement high-performance backend services and APIs that power client operations at scale.
- Architect and maintain large-scale data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehousing solutions for client analytics, reporting, and automation workflows.
- Transform high-volume operational data into clean, normalized formats using distributed streaming and batch processing systems.
- Lead architectural decisions for data flow, system design, and horizontal scalability as we support increasingly larger client operations.
- Ensure reliability, performance, and observability across all backend systems processing high-volume data workflows and serving mission-critical business operations.
Things we’re looking for
- 7-10+ years of professional backend engineering experience, ideally with expertise in distributed systems, data pipelines, and API architecture.
- Strong experience designing systems, services, and data models in complex domains.
- Experience working on automation-heavy systems, developer tools, or regulated workflows.
- High attention to detail. Our credibility with clients depends on accuracy and correctness.
- Strong background in building and maintaining production data pipelines, ETL processes, data warehousing, or streaming analytics systems that handle large data volumes.
- Bonus: You’ve shipped reusable internal tools or productized operational patterns.
- Excellent async communicator and team collaborator.
- You’re a self-starter who thrives in ambiguous environments and takes pride in shipping great work end to end.
