What we do
Group Balance Sheet Management (GBSM) is a department in Old Mutual that oversees Market Risk, Treasury, and Capital Allocation in the Old Mutual Emerging Market Group. Our Financial Software Engineering team is fairly small, and is tasked with delivering the industry leading tools GBSM (and the broader Finance teams) requires, ranging from data analysis web apps to financial models on GPUs in the cloud.
Why Work For Us
We work on hard problems, and have a large amount of freedom to choose the best tools, and approaches, to solve those problems. We take pride in the quality and impact of the work we deliver.
We believe in growing the individuals in our teams, with a high priority placed on learning and growth, through numerous mediums.
We work in a financial institution, an area in which many devs have little experience. At the end of the day, though, it's all just numbers and rules - algorithms. We work with the financial specialists to extract those rules and codify them into systems, thereby reducing risk, increasing efficiency, and allowing talented humans to do what they do best (i.e. not copying and pasting data from one Excel sheet to another).
We place a large value on being the best at what we do, enabling the broader GBSM team to perform optimally in their roles, delivering quality solutions in a sustainable manner, and working on interesting and challenging problems. We strive to ensure that we enjoy our work, and who we work with.
Our Engineering Processes
We work in an agile manner, without being dogmatic about process. We believe in iterative solutions, we integrate continuously, and strive to have our deployments be as automated as possible.
Our project teams are small (3 people max) so you'll have an impact early on, no matter how new you are.
We interact directly with the users of our tools, and seek to develop quick and clear feedback loops.
