The Wits Innovation Centre (WIC) and the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) at Wits University aim to develop processes that will support Digital Transformation and people who will Lead Africa's Digital Future. As part of the education and training, Wits recognises that various departments and Innovators at Wits require bespoke software solutions to support their respective work.
To support departments at Wits and other entities, the Software Development Unit (SDU) at JCSE is running a GRaduate Internship programme (GRIP) with WIC using mainly Wits graduates. All development work will be done under the supervision of a Lead Developer who will guide them on aspects of the software development lifecycle as if they are in an actual workplace. Supervision and mentorship are critical ingredients in this programme to ensure the production of high-quality applications that serve the needs of the departments and other Wits entities. This role is a guaranteed opportunity for the software developer to learn and grow.
Our long-term goal is to re-establish the SDU as the preferred choice for any software development work within the University and beyond the academic environment.

The combination of research with the right software tools can unleash solutions that can impact communities and eventually all South Africans. This is part of the focus activities relating to digital transformation and the 4th Industrial Revolution.
