Our upcoming 2023 State of the Developer Nation Report shows that 23.4% of South African software engineers work with Angular on a regular basis. This makes it the fourth most-used framework in South Africa after Node.js, React, and ASP.NET. Here, we’ll look at average salaries for Angular developers by experience and how they compare to those for React and Vue.js developers.
Average junior Angular developer salary trends
The average entry-level Angular developer salary starts at R21 403 per month, 7.3% higher than their average salary in 2022. At this stage of their careers, they earn 10.3% and 5.6% less than their React and Vue.js counterparts.
Once they pass the two-year mark, the average junior Angular developer’s salary increases by 37.1% for a monthly salary of R29 350, 2.6% higher than 2022’s average.
Angular developers in South Africa can expect their largest salary increase after they’ve been coding for at least four years:
Average salaries for mid-level Angular developers with four to six years of experience increase by 63.8% to R48 067, a healthy 11.3% above last year’s average of R43 186.
In fact, the average salary for an entry-level Angular developer doubles by the time they pass the four-year mark. As a result of this sizeable increase, they’ve overtaken React and Vue.js by 1.2% and 9.1%, respectively.

Average senior Angular developer salary trends
It’s standard for developers to experience a slowdown in their salary growth once they become seniors, regardless of their tech stack.
Angular developers are no exception to this trend, and see a decrease in their salary growth after they pass the six-year mark. The average senior Angular developer still sees their salary increase by 29..7% after they’ve been in the industry for at least six years.
This gives them an average monthly salary of R62 352, 4.1% more than 2022’s average of R59 891. However, they now trail their counterparts by 7.2%, but still earn 6.3% more than those who work with Vue.js.
Once they pass the ten years of experience mark, Angular developers see an uptick in their salary growth and can expect an additional 36.6% increase, giving them an average salary of R85 200. By this stage of their careers, the gap between them and React developers narrows to 6.1%, but they now trail their Vue counterparts by 1.5%.

Keep in mind
The data in this article is taken from OfferZen’s upcoming 2023 State of the Software Developer Nation Report. In this article, ‘salary’ refers to the gross monthly salary (before tax) provided by more than 4500 survey respondents.
Average salaries are single data points and only one part of a bigger story. It’s expected that many respondents may earn significantly more or less than these averages. However, we hope to provide a picture of underlying trends by mapping the average salaries for different experience levels.
These averages should not be used to estimate what your actual salary will or should be.
Salaries depend on the industry, individual, perks and nature of work. These factors all influence the salary a company will offer to a prospective hire. In addition, most developers are “fluent” in several languages, which will affect the final figures.
